Recruitment Details:

SAY Sí is a year-round long-term multidisciplinary creative youth development program for middle and high school students. SAY Sí recruits new students two times a year during the spring and fall. Students can join SAY Sí at NO COST because of our intensive fundraising efforts and the generosity of many supporters. However, students must meet program requirements to be part of SAY Sí. 

Student Requirements:

  • Parental/guardian permission
  • Reliable transportation to and from SAY Sí
  • Current enrollment in middle school or high school (public, private or home school) in 6-11th grade
  • A minimum C average in school
  • Commitment to attending weekly studio sessions (Students currently meet 1-2 times a week after school, with a virtual option for unvaccinated and high-risk youth and an in-person option for 100% vaccinated youth. We are planning for in-person studio sessions for 100% vaccinated youth, but if COVID-19 rates increase, sessions may transition to virtual for the safety of our community.)
  • Commitment to abide by SAY Sí’s in-person COVID-19 safety protocols, including wearing a mask
  • Commitment to good attendance year-round
  • Commitment to completing all SAY Sí projects in a timely manner while acting as a positive influence in the studios
  • Please note that for the time being, in-person programs require 100% vaccinations for youth participation. Unvaccinated youth may apply to participate in SAY Sí virtually. For more information about our policies, click HERE.
  • **While SAY Sí accepts a diverse array of students from all areas of town, first priority is given to students from lower economic households and from San Antonio’s marginalized communities.**

Student applicants must meet ALL of the above requirements to be eligible for the SAY Sí program. Following acceptance into the program, incoming student-artists must also fill out a mandatory student Memorandum of Understanding. 

How to Apply:

  1. Read ALL SAY Sí Student Requirements above
  2. Read SAY Sí Program Descriptions
  3. Visit our application page and fill out the SAY Sí Application Form. All applications must be submitted digitally.
  4. SAY Sí staff will review all applicants, and eligible candidates will participate in an interview. SAY Sí will contact eligible candidates to schedule an in-person interview.
  5. Students will be notified of the decision via email and letter after interviews have been completed and all applicants have been reviewed.

After your interview, acceptance or deferral letters will be sent by mail. All accepted students and parents will be required to attend a new student/parent orientation in order to officially join SAY Sí. Orientation is MANDATORY. 

What to bring during your interview:

  • Current report card
  • If you are a Visual Art or WAM Middle School Program candidate, you must bring in examples of recently completed artwork.
  • If you are a MAS Filmmaking/Photography Program candidate, you must bring in examples of digital art, photography or film work you have recently completed.
  • If you are an ALAS Theatre Program Candidate, you will be requested to participate in an ALAS Theatre Arts workshop designed to introduce you to the ALAS program. ALAS instructors will then interview the applicant along with their parent/guardian to finalize enrollment.
  • If you’re a HIVE New Media Program candidate, bring at least one of the following: examples of programs or games coded (that can run on OSX or in the browser), examples of recently completed artwork (digital or otherwise), and/or a sketchbook showing your creative process and interests
  • Middle school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
