Interested in becoming a SAY Sí student?

SAY Sí is a year-round long-term multidisciplinary creative youth development program for middle and high school students. SAY Sí recruits new students two times a year during the spring and fall – in January and August. Students can join SAY Sí at NO COST because of our intensive fundraising efforts and the generosity of many supporters. However, students must meet the requirements below to be part of the SAY Sí program.

SAY Sí is currently only accepting new applications from high school students interested in the HIVE (New Media), MAS (filmmaking/photography) and ALAS (theatre) programs. Based on current demographics the High School HIVE studio is currently not accepting students who are above 80% income level (see chart HERE). Full recruitment for all studios will take place in January. 

Student Requirements:

  • Parental/guardian permission
  • Reliable transportation to and from SAY Sí
  • A minimum C average in school
  • Commitment to attending the program weekly (minimum 8 hours per week for high school students [10 hours during summer] & Saturdays for middle school students)
  • Commitment to attending the program year-round
  • Commitment to completing all SAY Sí projects in a timely manner while acting as a positive influence in the studios
  • Current enrollment in middle school or high school (public, private or home school) in 6-11th grade
  • ***While SAY Sí accepts a diverse array of students from all areas of town, first priority is given to students from San Antonio’s inner city and from lower economic households. Based on current demographics the High School HIVE studio is currently not accepting students who are above 80% income level (see chart HERE).***

Student applicants must meet ALL of the above requirements to be eligible for the SAY Sí program. Following acceptance into the program, incoming student-artists must also fill out a mandatory student Memorandum of Understanding.

How to Apply:

  1. Read ALL SAY Sí Student Requirements above
  2. Read SAY Sí Program Descriptions. High school applicants will choose one program to potentially join. Middle School WAM Applicants can indicate top two choices, but acceptance into those options will be based on availability. 
  3. Visit our application page and fill out the SAY Sí Application Form.
  4. Schedule an interview by calling 210.212.8666.

After your interview, acceptance or deferral letters will sent by mail. All accepted students and parents will be required to attend a new student/parent orientation in order to officially join SAY Sí. Orientation is MANDATORY. 

What to bring during your interview:

  • Current report card
  • If you are a Visual Art or WAM Middle School Program candidate, you must bring in examples of recently completed artwork.
  • If you are a MAS Filmmaking/Photography Program candidate, you must bring in examples of digital art, photography or film work you have recently completed.
  • If you are a ALAS Theatre Program Candidate, you will be requested to participate in a ALAS Theatre Arts workshop designed to introduce you to the ALAS program. ALAS instructors will then interview the applicant along with their parent/guardian to finalize enrollment.
  • If you’re a HIVE New Media Program candidate, bring at least one of the following: examples of programs or games coded (that can run on OSX or in the browser), examples of recently completed artwork (digital or otherwise), and/or a sketchbook showing your creative process and interests
  • Middle school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Summer Schedule – High School:

Monday-Thursday 12-6 PM, Saturdays 12-5 PM

Yearly Schedule – Middle School:

Every Saturday, 9:30 AM – 2 PM
