Theatre Arts: Audition Basics

Auditioning – Learn how to prepare for an audition. This class will help you pick, memorize and rehearse a monologue and an audition song. We will also take headshots and practice cold readings, discussing what a director is looking for in an audition, and how you can put your best foot forward. Other audition basics will be reviewed.

New Media Arts: The Art of Comic Design

Unleash your creativity and bring your stories to life! In our Comic Design class,  students will make their own comics from start to finish.   We will look at various styles and techniques, & students will explore character design, storytelling, panel layout,  and inking techniques. Whether you love drawing superheroes, manga, or original stories, this class will help you turn your ideas into fun exciting visual stories.

Afternoon Classes (1:00pm – 4:00pm)

Media Arts: 3D Silent Shorts

Step into the world of movie magic and learn how filmmakers create amazing 3D movies. In this hands-on class, students will explore 3D movies, watch a 3D movie together, and learn how to shoot their own using two cameras at the same time. Because the films are silent, students will focus on creative visual storytelling, using camera angles, acting, and editing to tell a story without dialogue. It’s a fun mix of filmmaking, movie history, and creative experimentation.

Visual Arts: Look of Stained Glass

In this class you will learn to design and paint faux stained glass using transparent surfaces, pattern templates and your imagination! No experience required!

Week 2 Class Schedule

Morning Classes (9:30am – 12:30pm)

Theatre Arts: Theatre Sewing Basics

Sewing – Learn how to make a simple garment and mend your favorite cloth items that have ripped or come unsewn. Students will learn basic clothing repairs, hand stitches and how to use a sewing machine. Students will complete a basic garment, skirt or shirt, from a pattern by the end of the week. More advanced students can learn to make a pattern of their own design.

Media Arts: Photography Zines

Create your own photo comic mystery this summer. In this class, you’ll use photography, comic techniques, and visual storytelling to design a strange and funny story. You’ll learn how to frame photos, stage scenes, and turn your images into a graphic-novel style story. By the end, you’ll have your own short photo comic packed with dramatic shots, weird clues, and clever twists. Perfect for anyone who likes photography, comics, or telling creative stories!

Working in small crews, students will write, direct, shoot, and edit original films and scenes while learning techniques that make each genre unique. Along the way, they’ll experiment with cinematic camera/editing work and storytelling tricks used in real movies, learning how to take an idea and bring it to life practically. If you love movies and want to make your own, this class is your chance to jump into the director’s chair.

VISUAL ARTS: Beyond Self Portratis

A three week class where you will go beyond a simple self portrait. These drawings and or paintings will be large scale. You will curate your own photo to work from (how you see yourself) We will pay attention to light sources, color, symbols, thematic focus, props, and emotional depth. These do not have to stay within realism, the goal is to connect you to your work.

The goal is to learn how to put “you” into your work AND to have a great portfolio piece!
